Who’s opinion matters?
1 Corinthians 4:3-4
Paul didn’t concern himself, with man’s opinions of him. The definition of the word judge in verse 3-4 is an opinion or conclusion about someone or something. The backslidden church of Corinthians, were forming man based opinions of Paul. Paul states, in verse four, that the only opinions he is concerned with, are those of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul, being humble chose to not judge himself. For Paul, to judge himself, would mean he would have to form his own opinions of himself. Our opinions of ourselves, will usually be biased, whereas God’s opinions of us are always right! Paul, chose to head to God’s opinions of him.
As Christian we should humble ourselves, to allow God to judge us from His word. We can’t expect God, to make an opinion of us from His word, when we are too prideful to listen. The bible says, in Psalms 138:6 “Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.” A humble Christian will humbly apply God’s biblical correction to himself. A Christian busy, forming opinions of others, exclude themselves from self-examination. A lack of biblical self-examinations leads to a regress in the Christian walk. The bible is a mirror(James 1:22-25) that reflects our personal issues, if we refuse to listen to God’s personal opinions of us, chastisement will follow( Hebrews 12:6-8).
May we as Christians seek God’s Judgment of us Psalms 35:24 “Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
