Ezekiel 14:1-3
“The idols that hold us back”
In this passage here we see a group of elders, a group that is old enough and experienced enough to know better. But these elders had a problem, and that’s an idol in their heart. God asked the elders “ should I be enquired of at all by them”.
1. Idols of the heart.
Noticed here that that any thing or thought that is above God is an idol. What could our idol be? Could we mind the council of our wife, friend, girlfriend more than the commands of God? If so that is an idol in the heart. Is there a secret sin that goes against the commands of God that we struggle to repent from? Then that is an idol in the the heart. Do we have social media accounts that connects us directly to sinful girls? That’s an idol of the heart. Christian, If you knowingly refuse to reject that sin then it’s an idol. You are willing to serve that sin more than your God.
Point 2 A blessing that is prevented.
We can’t expect our prayers to be answered when we harbor idols in our life. God asked in Ezekiel 14:3 “should I be enquired of at all by them”? God was asking the elders, if they really expected their prayers to be answered while still holding on to idols in their life. God hides his face from Christians living in sin (Isaiah 59:2). It’s not worth holding on to sin. May God help us with this.
